Have you every been on a cruise? Considered it but maybe haven’t taken the leap yet? There are more than 20 million people who set sail to their dream destinations every year. When booked at the right time cruising can be a very affordable, cheaper alternative to your families summer beach trip. For example, did you know that most cruise ships include free food and beverages for the length of your trip? I don’t mean just hamburgers and hot dogs either. There is always a very diverse selection of food to indulge on while on the ship! Looking to book a cruise for your next vacation, don’t set sail before reading about these pro cruise tips you should know before you set sail!
It’s true that when you set sail drinks are included in your cruise rate but usually only certain drinks such a juice, coffee, tea and water. If you are wanting soda or alcohol while on your cruise you will more than likely have to shell out an extra few dollars per drink, depending on what you prefer.
There are upgrades for soda and alcohol packages you can add to your total but did you know that most cruise ships allow you to bring so many bottles of wine, soda, and water with you when you set sail? You can check with your booking company to get exact details but most usually allow one bottle of wine per adult person in your cabin and/or 1 pack of soda or water.
I remember when I went on my first cruise, it never crossed my mind that I wouldn’t be able to phone home to my then two year old son to check in on him. I was so use to my phone being in my hand with the ability to phone anyone at any time of the day. Can you imagine the shock when we got out to sea and there was absolutely no cell reception? It makes perfect sense that cell reception wouldn’t be out in the middle of the ocean but it was just something I didn’t think about before leaving.
Thankfully now you can purchase Wi-Fi packages to add to your room. The packages vary by your needs but a simple social media package for a 5 day cruise will run you less than $35. If you’d rather save that extra $35 for additional souvenirs while on your trip then keep in mind that most port restaurants and businesses offer free Wi-Fi so be sure to grab your phone when you port!
Who doesn’t love a good spa day, especially while on vacation?! Once you’re all booked for your cruise you have the option to add on spa services to your room. You will be able to book by the date and time to ensure service. If you are willing to wait and take the risk though, most cruise ships offer special rates and packages while out at sea.
Each day the crew slips a fun pamphlet under your door that lists all the fun activities for the day, along with a spa specials sheet. These specials are normally much cheaper than what you pay at booking. Once you see a service and price that suits your budget be sure to book before spots fill up!
Bonus Tip: Pack A Carryon
The first day of cruising is always the most hectic. There will be elevator delays, luggage delays, and long lines so packing a carryon is very essential in helping make the first day a lot easier. When you pack your carryon think of things you may need the first several hours while on the ship (medication, swimsuits, sunscreen, etc.). It can sometimes takes hours for the crew to get your luggage delivered to your room so packing these things in your carryon will ensure you do not miss out on any of the fun while you wait.
