Good Dental Hygiene Can Make You Look Younger
A toothless smile isn’t a good look for anyone, but for millennials the impact of bad teeth is even worse as a study by the American Dental Association (ADA) has found that 28% are hindered in job interviews due to a weak smile. Like it or not, ageing is a fact of life and something we all experience; so, who wouldn’t want to lessen the impact on their appearance by simply practicing good dental hygiene with regular brushing with a premium toothpaste, flossing and attending check-ups with your dentist?
Keeping the mouth healthy
Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in US citizens, therefore a good dental hygiene routine ensures your teeth are kept clean and your gums remain healthy. It’s recommended that you brush teeth 2-3 times a day with a good quality toothbrush, such as a high rated electric toothbrush and you should floss once a day, too. Individuals should also ensure they are consuming healthy foods and avoid products which are packed full of sugar as it sticks to the teeth and erodes tooth enamel, which can eventually lead to gum disease and possible extractions.
The benefits of having good teeth
When you think of an individual with missing teeth, an ageing senior immediately springs to mind. However, premature tooth loss is becoming increasingly frequent in adults and even children. Of course, the early loss of a child’s milk tooth will eventually result in an adult tooth taking its place, however adults aren’t so lucky. Having good teeth and all round positive dental health makes individuals feel more confident and less self-conscious. People will be more inclined to smile which can build better relationships with those they come into contact with on a daily basis. It’s also important for parents to exhibit and encourage healthy attitudes to eating and cleaning around their children to prevent poor habits being picked up and youngsters having to experience painful dental surgery.
Who doesn’t want to stay looking youthful for as long as possible? Many of us dye our hair, carefully apply cosmetics and take regular fitness classes to try to combat ageing, and a daily 10 minute teeth cleaning routine incorporated into your day to day schedule is all it takes to keep your mouth healthy, free from diseases and their associated problems. In turn, this is an age-defying process which you and your family can follow for life to keep yourselves feeling and looking good.
Many of us forget about the importance of looking after our teeth, but the benefits, which include looking younger, should encourage everyone to ditch the sugary snacks and grab their toothbrush at least twice a day.
