Myth: face oils cause breakouts.
It wasn’t until about a year ago that I myself realized that face oils do not actually cause breakouts. In fact, when used properly face oils can actually help prevent nasty breakouts. Trust me, I know how difficult it is to keep your skin free of breakouts, I was that teenage girl with the acne everywhere.
I still have scars today from all the horrible breakouts I encountered in my earlier years. I was terrified to use anything that even resembled oil on my acne prone skin but now I can’t imagine going through my skin care routine and not using my beloved face oils. So, what are the benefits of face oils, you may ask? If you haven’t made the leap and are too afraid to incorporate face oils into your skin care routine please allow me a few moments to try and convince you otherwise.
Say Goodbye to Zits
Tea Tree Oil is a great natural alternative to clearing up even the nastiest of breakouts. Tea Tree Oil is a natural antiseptic extracted from the leaves of the Australian tea tree. It can help counteract bacteria and microbial growth making it especially useful in the battle against acne prone skin. Tea Tree Oil can be used as a spot treatment or diluted with witch hazel to make a great all over treatment.
Did Someone Say Acne Scars?!
If you are like I was and have acne scaring from previous breakouts then you will want to incorporate this next oil into your regimen as often as possible. Vitamin C helps to rejuvenate the skin by supporting collagen and elastin production. If you’re looking to get rid of red acne marks and scars, then Vitamin C is one of the best for both internal and external use. Vitamin C when combined with a Dermaroller is a powerful duo for combating acne scars, dark spots, and sun damage.
It’s been hot here in the South and those rising temperatures along with cranked up heaters in the winter can suck the moisture right out of your skin. Oils are the perfect remedy for dry, flaked, and rough skin and can be much more effective than over-the-counter lotions/creams. Oils can penetrate deep into the skin helping to lock in water and other moisturizing goodness. Cupuacu Oil is a great superior moisturizer which also helps improve the appearance of premature aging.
The Perfect Makeup Primer
Some oils, like the Glamour Drops by The Better Skin Co., absorb straight through the top layer of the skin quickly providing hydration to the areas of your skin that need hydrating the most. This gives an immediate plumping effect in turn creating the perfect canvas for your makeup and we all know, the smoother your skin the better makeup goes on! I also love that these drops double as anti-aging benefits by assisting in reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles.
Face oils are now made in cosmetically elegant, light formulations that are excellent for layering and everyday use. Just keep in mind that a small amount of the right product goes a long way but too much of anything is never a good idea.
